What is "Plano B"?

“Plano B, atreve-te a evoluir ( Plano B,
dare to improve ), is a comprehensive project which has the
“mission” of spreading and teaching surf not only as a
sport, but also as a leisure activity. It has got three distinctive
areas: Surf Academy, Surf Guide and Surf for All.
The Academy is divided in two different strands: Initiation and
Improvement/Development.
The goal is not only to deliver the true feeling of Surf, a sense of
communion with nature and to pass on a global ecological awareness to
the students, but also, to assist in the development of technical and
psychological competences, in order to prepare and accompany the
athlete for and during the competition.
The Surf Guide service, through the experience and “know
how” gained over 28 years, of surfer Pedro “Pirujo”
Araujo, aims to let people discover and enjoy the Portuguese Coast, one
of our best and biggest asset/heritage, to a growing number of tourists
who seek our Coast/Shores for surfing.
Our waves present a unique diversity, especially in the metropolitan
area of Lisbon, both South and North of the Tagus River (Tejo), which
leads to an increasing number of Portuguese and Tourist surfers.
On the other hand, Surf for All is an important part of the project
that has a goal of using Surf and Nature as means/a way of preventing
risk behavior in adolescence.
History
“Plano B” began operating as a Surf
School in November 2004, drived by surfer and finalist in
Psychology by I.S.P.A – Instituto Superior de Psicologia Aplicada
(Psychology Higher Institute), Pedro “Pirujo” Araújo.
Now with 28 years of surfing and more than 20 in competition, he
understood the need for a more oriented education towards the technical
development of the athletes, who, although, with experience in surfing,
face the same kind of difficulties/errors.
We seek to use Surf as a way of developing psychological skills related
to competition, and also to promote technical progress, improved
performance and efficiency.

Where are we?

“Plano B” Surf and BodyBoard Academy
is a mobil surf school that guive most part of the surf lessons at
Carcavelos beach, in the beautiful and charismatic
Cascais Coast, in the Lisbon district.
Whenever the weather and sea conditions do not
allow us to hold the
classes/sessions in Carcavelos beach, we move to the ones that have the
best conditions and security, according to the level of each group.
How to get there?
A) From Lisbon, through A5
(highway) – Exit Carcavelos, direction Carcavelos/Marginal. At
Marginal turn right, (by now you will be able to see Carcavelos beach
on the left hand side) and at the roundabout, turn back towards Lisbon,
turn to he Car Park near
“Casa da Praia” (“Beach House”)
concession’s. .
B) From Cascais, pass the 1st
Carcavelos roundabout, and turn to the Car Park near “Casa
da Praia” (“Beach House”)
concession’s.

How we work
“Plano B” Surf Academy, teaches Surf
and BodyBoard in individual or small groups, focusing on quality of
personalized service, in which, security and students attendance is a
priority, emphasizing as well communication between the parties.
Initiation
In our initiation classes/sessions, we teach the
Surf “A B C”, with quality and safety, giving students
access to a radical fun and healthy modality/sport, where Nature and
sea provide a constant challenge.
Improvement
A lot of surfers get to a certain performance
level, in which they stop moving forward/evolving/ improving, meeting
specific technical difficulties. It’s in these situations that
“Plano B” intends to act, by presenting improvement
sessions/lessons.
Using all the experience, not only within the Surf, but also in the
psychology field, Pedro “Pirujo” Araújo, prepares a
full individual plan, designed in accordance with the specific
difficulties identified in each student.
Through video analysis and detailed observation of each student’s
action/reaction in water, “Plano B” presents an individual
solution, in order for the athletes to achieve their goals.
